Last week in class we researched a couple different technological tools in class.  The one that took me most by surprise was Twitter.  I say this because I never really thought of using Twitter in the classroom as a way of communicating with students, but then again I have never really thought about using any or most of these technological tools in a classroom before taking this class.
This tool could also be a way to communicate with students outside of the classroom like if they had questions about an assignment or if you needed to post an assignment through twitter.  It could also be used to follow other teachers, education tweeters, government tweeters, or a multitude of other people that have to do with education to gain ideas for the classroom or to keep up with bills and laws that are being passed that will effect you in the everyday classroom.
The cons for using a social media device like Twitter far outweigh the pros in my opinion.  The major setback would be that students can frame a teachers or accuse a teacher of communicating in a way that could get a teacher fired.  Tweets are public but you can also send private messages on Twitter.  Any kind of social media including Facebook are very dangerous tools for teachers to use just because of the fact that teachers can be accused of communicating with a student in an inappropriate way.  Another major setback would be that some students might not have smart phones where they can just pull up Twitter whenever they want.  Some students also might not even have internet at their homes, or even a computer or laptop to be able to access Twitter to keep up with assignments or to ask questions outside of the classroom.
